Tottenham er 1-0 yfir gegn Ítalíumeisturum Juventus í seinni leik liðanna í 16-liða úrslitum Meistaradeildarinnar sem er þessa stundina verið að spila á Wembley. Sem stendur er Tottenham með 3-2 forystu í einvíginu og Juventus þarf að skora hið minnsta tvö mörk til þess að eiga möguleika á því að fara áfram.
En staðan hefði getað verið öðruvísi. Juventus gerði nefnilega sterkt tilkall að vítaspyrnu fyrir markið.
Jan Vertonghen, varnarmaður Tottenham, tók Douglas Costa niður í teignum og héldu allir að pólskur dómari leiksins myndi þá benda á vítapunktinn og dæma vítaspyrnu fyrir Juventus.
Hann gerði það hins vegar ekki og urðu leikmenn leikmenn Juventus snælduvitlausir út í hann.
Mikið var rætt um þetta á samfélagsmiðlum og veltu margir fyrir sér hvort VAR, myndbandsdómgæsla, hefði komið sér að góðum notum þarna. Þess ber að geta að sprotadómari var beint fyrir framan atvikið. Hann sá ekki neitt athugavert við það.

🤔 Should #Juventus have been awarded a penalty?

Tottenham unbelievably lucky. As obvious as a penalty can be for Juventus. What's the assistant referee doing?! Shocking officiating.

The 15 referees - the 14 VAR investigators - 12 UEFA delegates couldn’t see that was a clear penalty at Wembley

Hang on... forget about VAR, what about the officials behind the goal?

Never mind VAR, I can't work out how the old EYE system didn't catch that Vertonghen foul on Douglas Costa

Three referees and none of them saw the penalty? Time to implement VAR in Champions League.

To say that the extra official should have spotted it is missing the point. He didn’t! VAR would have corrected it. It’s a better, fairer system than having 2 more on the goal line.

Looks even worse when you watch it on replay. How the hell that wasn't called? It was so so obvious. Then people will say we don't need VAR. Refs clearly can't be trusted.
